The metro service has a train going from Mumbai to Pune and Pune to Mumbai every hour, the first one at 6 a.m.The trip from one city to other takes 4.5hours, and all trains travel at the same speed. How many trains will you pass while going from Mumbai to Pune if you start at 12 noon?

Options:
a.8, b.10, c.9, d.13

If I start at 12 noon, I will reach Pune by 430 pm i.e. in 4.5 hours. I will pass trains that left Pune at 8 am, 9 am, 10 am, 11 am, 12 noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, and 4 pm. Hence, a total of 9 trains.

hey sir,

help me out to solve this question.

In a city a local shuttle train starts from and arrive at the station at fixed intervals and run at uniform speed. A boy was walking down the railway track at certain speed. Every 1/2 an hour a local train overtook him and every 20 min, a local train passed him in the
opposite direction. Find the time interval between a local train passing a certain point on the railway track and the immediately next
local train passing that point in same direction.

let's say distance between 2 consecutive local trains is 60 km

so in every 30 min a train passes him - relative distace travelled is 60 and so relative speed in same direction will be = 60/30 = 2 km/min = x-b.... (1)  (x is speed of train and b is speed of boy)

In 20 mins train crosses him - relative distance is 60 km travelled  and so relative speed in opposite direction 60/20 = 3 km/min = x+b....(2)

from (1) and (2)x= 2.5

hence train will cover distance of 60 km at 2.5 kms so time = 60/2.5 = 24 mins

Hello Kinshuk

Please find the solution

The trains that starts from Mumbai at 12.00Noon will meet the first train that reaches Mumbai at 12.30, thus started at 8.00AM. Then it would meet the one that started at 9.00AM, 10.00AM so on till it reaches Pune at 4.30PM thus meeting 9 trains on the way.

Train takes 3 seconds to enter the tunnel so  the distance travelled in 3s = Lenth of the train

3 x (80/3) = 80 m

A man in a train notices that he can count 21 telephone posts in one minute . If they are known to be 50 miles apart then at what speed is the train travelling?

TG Team 10/10/2018 1:03 am

P1 ____P2 ____P3 ___......P20____P21

Distance travelled in 1 minute = 50 × 20 = 1000metres

1km in 1min.

Hence speed :   60km/hr.

A train without stoppages travels at the rate of 50 km per hour and with stoppages travels at the rate of 45 km an hour. How many minutes does the train stop on an average per hour?

  1. a) 6 min
  2. b) 10 min
  3. c) 5 min
  4. d) 8 min

@neha-singh

Explanation: Minutes/hr the train stops = (50 -45)/50 x 60 = 5/60 x 60 → 6 min.

Two trains of different lengths are travelling in opposite directions with different speeds. Rajesh, a passenger travelling in the slow train observes that the faster train completely passes him in 10 seconds. Ramesh, a person standing on the road observes that the two trains completely pass each other in 18 seconds. If the length of the faster train is 600 m, what is the length of the slower train?

1.480 m

2.750 m

3.450 m

4. More information is needed to solve the problem
