MAT (Management Aptitude Test) is a standard aptitude test conducted every year since 1998. MAT exam is for admission in Master of Business Administration and allied programmes by over 600 business schools across India. Approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2003. It is a computer based standardized aptitude test administered by the All India Management Association. Basically, it tests the language comprehension, mathematical skills, data analysis and sufficiency, intelligence and critical reasoning, Indian and global environment.
What is MAT?
Management Aptitude Test or MAT is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the All Indian Management Association (AIMA) for admissions to MBA/PGDM courses at 800+ B-Schools in India. The exam is conducted in multiple sessions in four phases – February, May, September and December.
MAT exam is conducted in offline (Paper Based test or PBT), online (Computer Based Test or CBT) and remote proctored (Internet Based Test or IBT) modes. MAT fees, exam pattern and syllabus for all three modes are same but admit card and exam dates are different. Candidates can take multiple attempts in any mode of their choice. However, they have to register for each session separately. The score of the last MAT test will be taken into consideration for admission.
MAT Eligibility Criteria 2024
For appearing in the MAT exam 2024, aspirants have to fulfill certain academic requirements fixed by the examination agency. Given below are the eligibility criteria for MAT exam 2024:
Candidates should have completed graduation or equivalent degree from a recognised university.
Final year graduation students awaiting their results are also eligible to apply for MAT 2024.
There is no minimum score requirement for MAT. Candidates with passing marks can appear for the exam.
Candidates who have completed a professional degree such as CA, CS or ICWA are also eligible to apply for the MAT exam.
MAT 2024 Syllabus
Language Comprehension: This section of MAT syllabus includes Verb, Noun, Pronoun, Adjective, Adverb, Antonyms & Synonyms, One Word Substitution, Idioms/Phrases, Vocabulary, Fill in the blanks, Sentence Correction, Para Jumble and Reading Comprehension.
Intelligence & Critical Reasoning: Topics included in this section include Analytical and Logical Reasoning topics such as Family Tree, Course of Action, Arrangement, Pie Chart, Calendars, Statement Conclusions, Strong Arguments and Weak Arguments, Puzzles, Series, Blood Relations, Coding & Decoding, Visual Reasoning, Syllogisms and Graphs.
Data Analysis & Data Sufficiency: This section is divided into – Data Analysis and Data Sufficiency. Topics to study include Line Graph, Bar Graph, Caselet, Pie Chart, Data Comparison, Quantitative Comparison and Data Sufficiency.
Mathematical Skills: In this section, candidates have to study Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Mensuration and Modern Maths.
Indian & Global Environment: The Indian & Global Environment or GK section of MAT exam has 40 questions from Current Affairs and static GK.

MAT exam pattern
The MAT exam pattern is divided into five sections. These sections include language comprehension, mathematical skills, data analysis and data sufficiency, intelligence and critical reasoning, and Indian and Global environment. The test paper contains 200 questions, divided equally among all five sections.
