Filling out the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2023 form is a very crucial step towards advancing your academic journey. However, many applicants accidentally make many mistakes while filling CAT Form which can later create issues during the admission process. In this article we have mentioned all those mistakes to avoid while filling Cat 2023 Form and how you can rectify them. First of all, you have to understand that there can be two types of mistakes:
Type No. 1- Mistakes that will affect your admission, and will make a difference
Type No. 2- The second kind would be the one that doesn’t make a difference.
For example, if you have scored 72% in your 12th board exams and while filling the CAT form you have mentioned 82%. So this is a mistake that will affect you during the admission process and hence it makes a difference. In other scenario, if your marks were 72% and you had written 73% so that will not make much of a difference, because most of the MBA colleges give marks in a range. This means if 70% to 80% marks then you will get x number of points, if you have 80 to 90 percent then you will get y number of points. That’s why, 72% or 73% will not make much of a difference.
So for such scenerios what you can do is make the necessary changes once the correction window of CAT opens. Also, even if you do not make these changes, you can still appear in the CAT exam and then it is up to the discretion of those B schools that they shortlist you for an interview or not or if shortlisted whether you will be allowed to give an interview or not.
Let’s start with those common mistakes, that students often make while filling CAT forms.
Mistake 1: Submitting incorrect applicant’s name
The first mistake that you have to avoid is filling up your name in the form. Most of the students make these mistakes while writing their names. Either it may can be spelling error, or if their name has changed, they write the wrong name. The second thing is, the name is mentioned on your 10th mark sheet, is the same name you have to write on the CAT form.
Mistake 2: Submitting incorrect contact details
The CAT form will ask you to fill E-mail and phone number two times, but still many people end up making a mistake in this step. If incorrect contact details is entered, the User name will be sent to the wrong ID and phone number. And later on the applicant will face difficulties in verifying and accessing the form. So better make sure to enter the correct contact details.
Mistake 3: Incorrect Academic(Degree) information
The third mistake is very common and a disastrous one. Applicants often fill up the wrong degree and wrong discipline. Being a CAT aspirant you must be aware that, most of the MBA colleges shortlist on the basis of diversity, then they look at your academic category i.e the degree that you pursued in graduation. So if you fill wrong degree, or if you have dual degree and you write only one, in that case, you are reducing your chances of getting shortlisted.
Mistake 4: Submitting incorrect academic marks
The fourth mistake that a lot of people make, not filling up the marks they have available. So those who are currently pursuing graduation it is a rule for them that they have to write the marks for only those semesters whose results are available with them. Many students make this mistake that they would have given the exam and their results would not have come. So they write those marks which they think they will get. You don’t have to write those marks. At the time of filling up the form the results of all semesters are available to you only mention those and on the basis of that you shortlist.
Mistake 5: Implementing incorrect grade formula
The fifth mistake is the grade conversion formula. The CAT exam form says that whatever marks you are writing to convert it into percentage. You have to follow the same formula which is specified by the university.
Mistake 6: Incorrect wrong experience
This mistake is made by many students i.e mentioning incorrect work experience. In the case of work experience, you have to mention only the number of months. This means from which date till which date you worked. And you have to make sure not count the work experience after the cut-off date. Apart from this some students also mentions his/her internship, articleship as work experience. Whereas it is clearly mentioned in the CAT form that only full-time experience after graduation work is considered.
If you are involved in your family business or self-employed In that case, you will have to show some proof. Like, the GST certificate or incorporation deed or salary slips, cheques and it should be mentioned on the letterhead that you have worked for this role. Basically, some proof has to be given that you were involved in a family business or your own business.
Mistake 7: Choosing wrong Programmes / cities
In the CAT form, for programs of all colleges, you do not have to fill out a separate form, for example IIMs. their list is given. Most of the students get choosy that we will fill only those courses programs, from where will we get calls or we would like to go there. You don’t have to do that, you have to click on select all, no matter what program it is. And that will ensure that you are maximising your chances, and it has no loss.
The second thing is for the interview you get to choose two location. Most of the students make the mistake of writing the city where they are at present. And, if you are selected for the interview, the interview will be scheduled in between January to April. So, make sure to mention that city you will be present during that time.
This form is going to be your introduction to the selection committee so make it count by avoiding these common mistakes and showcase your dedication to join the CAT 2023 program. I hope you all are not taking much stress right now and preparing really well. Wish you all the very best!!
