Alternative approach :

AD^2 = BD x DC

4^2 = 6 x DC

DC = 16/6 = 8/3

AC = AD + DC = 8/3 + 6 = 26/3

In equilateral triangle ABC with side 16. If ADis perpendicular to BC and AE is congruent to ED then BE=?

IMG 20181027 103625
TG Team 27/10/2018 12:11 pm

AD ( Altitude of the triangle )  = AB sqrt{3}/2

AD = 16sqrt{3}/2 = 8sqrt 3

AE = ED = 4 sqrt{3}

BE = sqrt { DE^2 + BD^2 } = sqrt {[ 8^2 + 4(sqrt3)^2 ]
